St. Joan of Arc was born on January 6, 1412 in the village of Domremy, France. She was the youngest of five children born to pious parents. At an early age she heard the voice of God, followed by the voices of Sts. Michael, Catherine and Margaret who eventually told her to go to the uncrowned King to save France. She was given a small army and lead the French to a shattering victory of Orleans She stood by Charles as he entered Rheims where he was crowned king. She was captured in 1430 and condemned to death as a heretic. At nineteen, she was burned at the stake. "I fear nothing for God is with me," she said. Thirty years later she was exonerated of all guilt and declared a martyr. She was canonized in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV.
St. Joan of Arc is the patroness of France and soldiers. Her feast day is celebrated on May 30th.
