Beautiful and unique Atelier Zovak signature bracelet honoring St. Dominic.
Dominic was born in Caleruega, Spain in 1170. He became a Franciscan Austin canon in 1199 and accompanied Blessed Diego Azevedo to southern France to preach against the Albigensian heretics. In 1208 when Peter of Castelnan, the papal legate was murdered by the Albigensians, Pope Innocent III started a crusade to end the heresy. Dominic accompanied Simon IV de Montfort in this crusade against the Albigensians but they were unsuccessful. Dominic did not take part in the violence, but used only the peaceful instruments of instruction and prayer. Discouraged by not converting many Albigensians, Dominic turned to Mary, who, according to tradition, appeared to him holding a rosary. She asked Dominic to pray the rosary daily and teach others to do so as well. Dominic spread the devotion of Mary. Simon IV Montfort gave Dominic a castle at Casseneuil, where he founded the Order of Preachers, once known as the Black Friars and best known as the Dominicans. He spent the last years of his life traveling through Italy, Spain and France organizing the oreder through religious traditions and intellectual pursuits.
St. Dominic is the patron of astronomers and seamstresses. His feast day is celebrated on August 8.

PRAYER TO ST. DOMINIC
O Holy Priest of God and glorious Patriarch, St. Dominic, thou who wast the friend, the well-beloved son and confidant of the Queen of Heaven, and didst work so many miracles by the power of the Holy Rosary, have regard for my intercessions.
On earth you opened your heart to the miseries of your fellow man, and your hands were strong to help them; now in heaven your charity has not grown less nor has your power waned.
Pray for me to the Mother of the Rosary and to her divine Son, for I have great confidence that through your assistance I shall obtain the favor I so much desire: (mention your intentions). Amen.
